1960s: birth of the Université de Picardie
In the early 60s, Amiens was home to four pre-university structures: a national school of medicine and pharmacy, a law school, a university science college and a school of literature. However, these establishments did not offer the full range of study courses, forcing young Amiens residents wishing to follow a complete course to leave the region. The schools in Amiens fall under the jurisdiction of the Académie de Lille.
1964 to 1968: the quest for autonomy
The Académie d'Amiens came into being on October 1, 1964. Robert Mallet is appointed head of the institution.
1964: a new scientific higher education establishment is created in Saint-Quentin.
1966: creation of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy
July 1968: creation of the Faculties of Humanities and Sciences
October 1968: creation of the Faculty of Law and Economics
October 24, 1968: official founding of the University of Amiens
L'Université de Picardie, a new player in higher education
1969: The Université de Picardie is established by ministerial decree on March 27.
In the words of Rector Mallet: "the university will be of Picardy". Throughout its history, the university confirmed the identity it had forged by fighting to retain the name "de Picardie". The decree of 1970 approves the statutes of the University of Picardy.
October 1970: Completion of the Amiens IUT, civil and mechanical engineering.
1970: Creation of the Faculty of Natural Sciences in Saint-Quentin.
March 16, 1971: Dominique Taddeï is elected the university's first President.
1972: The Faculty of Law and Economics moves to the Campus
November 30, 1973: Roland Perez elected 2nd President of the University.
1974: Creation of the Institut d'Administration des Entreprises (IAE)
1975: Creation of the Institut du Troisième Age (Third Age Institute)
October 27 1978: Bernard Rousset elected 3rd President
November 25 1983: Francis Perdu elected 4th Chairman
February 19 1989: Bernard Nemitz elected 5th Chairman
October 1, 1990: Opening of the Beauvais University Campus

The university becomes the Université de Picardie Jules Verne, a tribute to the famous writer who lived in Amiens for many years.
1991: Extension of the Faculty of Science in downtown Amiens.
1991: Faculties of Medicine and Pharmacy transferred to the Saint-Charles hub in Amiens
1991: IUT department opens in Creil
1992: IUT departments in Beauvais and Soissons
1993: IUT department at Laon
1994: Creation of the Faculty of Arts
January 14, 1994: Paul Personne elected 6th President
1996: IUT Department at Saint-Quentin
1996: Creation of the IUT de l'Oise
1996: Opening of a STAPS session in Cuffies-Soissons
1997: Opening of the new Faculties of Law and Economics in the city center
1998: Creation of the Aisne IUT
January 15, 1999: Bernard Risbourg elected 7th Chairman
June 22, 2001: Gilles Demailly elected 8th President
End 2004: New four-year contract signed. The UPJV is present in six towns in the Amiens region. The LMD (Licence-Master-Doctorat) system is introduced.
June 2006: Georges Fauré is elected 9th President.
January 2008: IUFM de l'académie d'Amiens becomes an "internal school" of the UPJV.
2008: Creation of the UFR des Sciences

2009: Université de Picardie Jules Verne celebrates its 40th anniversary
2010: UPJV has 18 UFRs and institutes
2011: UPJV becomes an autonomous university on January 1 under the LRU law
May 2012: Michel Brazier elected 10th President
September 2013: The IUFM becomes the ESPE, Ecole Supérieure du Professorat et de l'Education, a new component of the UPJV.
September 2016: Mohammed Benlahsen elected 11th President
2017: Collaborations with the Universities of Artois and Littoral Côte d'Opale
September 2018: 1st academic year in the Pôle universitaire Citadelle
2019: UPJV celebrates its 50th anniversary
September 2019: The ESPÉ becomes the INSPÉ, Institut national supérieur du professorat et de l'éducation.
November 2019: Inauguration of the Pôle universitaire Citadelle by French President Emmanuel Macron
2020: The UPJV partners the commemoration of the 800th anniversary of Amiens Cathedral
2020: Re-election of Mohammed Benlahsen for a four-year term
2021: Launch of the IAE in Saint-Quentin
2022: Renovation of the Pôle Campus in Amiens, the first training facility of the former Université de Picardie
2023: Opening of the EIJV engineering school and creation of the Odontology UFR
2024: UPJV has 32,000 students
