Soil sampling in Picardy
On mid-september, Karin Hansen (IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute), coordinator of WP4 came North France to help to start with soil sampling in smallFOREST windows. In 16 selected forest patches per window, they are taking samples of forest floors and mineral soils. From this samples they will determine pH, N and P concentrations. This will serve to relate nutrient availability to functional and structural diversity on the study sites. Soil C stocks will also be assessed.
This sampling is taking place in all regions at the same time, and all the samples will be analysed at the same laboratory in Ghent, Belgium, to avoid undesired heterogeneities in the results.
