STRENGTHENING THE DOCTORAL PROGRAM

Doctoral Researchers at the Heart of the E.SENSE Initiative

Doctoral researchers joining the E.SENSE project become part of an interdisciplinary scientific community bringing together the institutions of the A2U Alliance (UPJV, Université d’Artois and ULCO) and its 21 research laboratories around the major challenges of energy storage and the energy transition. Beyond their individual research work, they benefit from a dedicated support and training programme designed to broaden their knowledge, develop their scientific skills and encourage exchanges across disciplines.

Throughout their doctoral studies, several initiatives are implemented to support their progress and enable them to become fully involved in the project’s scientific activities.

This programme notably includes:

  • A literature review presentation during the first year of the PhD;
  • Thematic lectures to deepen their knowledge;
  • Scientific workshops providing opportunities to present their research and discuss their work with researchers from the different A2U institutions;
  • Scientific days, which provide key opportunities to share research progress, discover different disciplinary approaches and develop new collaborations.

Finally, doctoral researchers are not merely beneficiaries of the initiatives offered by E.SENSE: they also play an active role in its development. Their involvement in events, scientific activities and collective initiatives directly contributes to the life of the University Research School (EUR), its outreach and the development of a scientific community focused on energy-related challenges in the Hauts-de-France region.

E.SENSE therefore aims to provide doctoral researchers with a stimulating, open and collaborative research environment, enabling them to develop their expertise while actively contributing to the development of a collective and transdisciplinary scientific dynamic.

The E.SENSE Doctoral Program

Literature Review Presentation

Starting in their first year, E.SENSE doctoral students conduct a literature review defense to present the state of the art in their research topic and gain a thorough understanding of its key scientific issues. This step allows them to solidify the theoretical foundations of their work from the very beginning of their dissertation, so that they can devote more of their second and third years to the empirical research process and the production of scientific results. Participation in scientific days

The E.SENSE Scientific Days bring together researchers, doctoral students, and project partners to discuss the project’s themes. They promote interdisciplinary exchange, the sharing of scientific advances, and the development of collaborations within the E.SENSE community.

Participation in thematic workshops

The E.SENSE thematic workshops allow doctoral students to present their research and receive feedback and insights from researchers at A2U institutions (UPJV, ULCO, and the University of Artois). These opportunities for exchange foster interdisciplinary dialogue, enrich scientific discourse, and help identify new avenues for research.

Training

The E.SENSE thematic sessions enable doctoral students to deepen their understanding of energy issues through scientific, economic, social, and environmental approaches. Led by experts, these sessions foster interdisciplinary collaboration and provide additional insights that complement their research.

Participation in the project

E.SENSE doctoral students actively contribute to the life and development of the University Research School (EUR) through their participation in the various initiatives it has launched. Their involvement in scientific, educational, and collaborative activities contributes to the project’s dynamism, its influence, and the building of an interdisciplinary scientific community across the A2U.
