A transnational history of film schools in the 20th Century – Season 2 ! 2025-2026

We are very pleased to inform you that our international online seminar « A transnational history of film schools in the 20th century » will start again on next Wednesday 12th November 2025 at 4 pm Paris time, at this link .

We will have the pleasure to listen to Klara Trskova (Film curator at the National Film Archive of Prague), who will give a talk entitled « Fading histories: Latin American Students and their FAMU Experience ».

This online seminar aims to bring together researchers from different countries working on film schools in the 20th century from a historical and transnational perspective. The following themes will be addressed: the circulation of political ideas, artistic practices and the creation of transnational professional networks. The focus will be on the social actors – teachers, administrative staff and students – and their productions (student films).

March 18 2026, Pascaline Morincôme (Université Jean Monnet de Saint-Étienne) : « “Everything must change”: alternative Film Schools in United Sates and in Europe (1970-1990) »
-On April 18 2026, we will finally hold a prospective session, where everyone is welcome to discuss the conclusions of our seminar, what is to be done next, what field, countries and schools still need to be investigated upon, what current researches are being led but not yet finished, etc.
