David P. Wacker and Wendy K. Berg
The University of Iowa, USA

The biobehavioral outpatient clinic was established in 1988 at University Hospital School, Department of Pediatrics, The University of Iowa. The clinic provides services to persons who engage in self-injury, aggression, and/or destruction and who have developmental disabilities. A multidisciplinary team that includes psychologists, physicians, nurses, speech-language pathologists, and social workers meets with each patient and his or her family or other care provider. Education consultants and other service providers are available to meet with the families on an as-needed basis. The focus of this presentation will be on the 60- to 90-minute evaluation conducted by the behavior analysis team. The results of the first 3 years of these analyses were summarized by Derby et al. (1992). This presentation will focus on the current assessment and treatment services provided during the behavioral evaluation. These services include brief functional analyses as described by Derby et al. (1992) and evaluations of specific components of treatment procedures. During the past year, 127 children and adults were evaluated in the clinic. A summary of these patients and the results of the functional analyses will be presented.
